Hi everybody:
In an earlier post in this group I already mentioned that I am planning on using an alternative polar scope with my astrotrac. Finally, all pieces are ready and I thought it may be interesting for the group to know about the result.
Here is a picture of the final design:
http://forum.astronomie.de/phpapps/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/ubb/download/Number/31402/filename/IMG_2609.jpgThe polar scope is from iOptron. Actually it is the same the company uses with its SkyTracker and has a clock-like reticle. So instead of three eventually dim alignment stars you only need polaris for alignment.
The adapter I designed has a bubble level which I can use to level the reticle of the polar scope. This is pretty much what the polarie scope has. The iOptron scope, however, comes with an iPhone app to find the current position of polaris.
I found comments on the iOptron scope that reported polar alignment as good as 3 arc min. Until now I can't confirm that but will report again when I have some experience on the kit performs under real sky.
Clear skies!
