• Turn off LP filter: Ensure the light pollution filter is disabled during imaging.
• Raw frames: Save and download the raw, uncombined .fit light frames from the telescope’s MyWorks folder (avoid using in-app stacked or JPEG-processed images).
• Targeting: Use IC 4587 as a convenient reference/target identifier in the Seestar app if needed.
• Defocusing (Optional/Recommended): A slight defocus (e.g., adding a small offset to the focuser position so stars spread across roughly 7–8 pixels) helps prevent color-channel saturation and improves color-band sampling.
Processing in ASTAP
• Load files: Open ASTAP, navigate to the Stack menu, open the Photometry tab, and browse to load your Seestar .fit files.
• Extract Green Channel: Select all loaded images, right-click the list, and choose Extract green channel (the green response closely approximates the Johnson-Cousins V photometric band).
• Run Photometry: Clear the RGB file list, reload the newly created green-channel frames, and execute the photometry routine following guide instructions from the Astronomical Society of Edinburgh to generate magnitude reports and median data.
• AAVSO Submission: Export the resulting measurement files to format and submit your light-curve data to the AAVSO.
