最高強度通常都出現在14日凌晨的2:00-03:00（地方時）。這個流星雨的數量在近幾年有逐年增加的現象

11月17日(星期五)，獅子座流星雨(LEO)極大，預測極大時間 21時28分(100顆)，香港高峰時間11月18日(星期六)凌晨5時40分，月齡初一，估計香港極黑地區高峰期ZHR只有7顆。

12月14日(星期四)，雙子座流星雨(GEM)極大，預測極大時間 9時16分(120顆)，香港高峰時間12月14日(星期四)凌晨3時14分，月齡廿七，估計香港極黑地區高峰期ZHR可達89顆，是今年最好條件的流星雨。

if. IF 2017 VT14 is/was a comet, it may produce a meteor shower on Dec. 13/14 (coincidentally, the same time as Geminids, but in the evening). The radiant computed with the program by L. Neslusan et al. has coordinates 332.5 21.2 (22:10 +21:12) which is in western Pegasus, about 4 deg south of the 4th mag star iota Pegasi. The meteors should be extremely slow (geocentric speed 10-11 km/s). You can see an example of such a slow mover at NASA ASGARD website, namely on the page of fireballs detected by the network in USA last night: https://fireballs.ndc.nasa.gov/20171129.html The very first meteor on top of that page (20171128 02:07:55 UTC) has v_g=12.5+/-0.9 km/s and the radiant position alpha=321.6+/-0.7, delta=37.0+/-0.3.

Given the small size of 2017 VT14 (H=22.6 or 22.7) one should not expect a large meteor activity. But it's worth while checking in the evening of Dec. 13/14 while observing the Geminids.

　雙子座流星雨（Geminids，004 GEM）是年度三大流星群的最後一群，活躍日期在12/4-12/17期間。國際流星組織（IMO）預測今年極大期發生在臺北時間12月14日下午14:30，預估ZHR可達每小時約120顆，整夜可見。不過月相逢月齡26的殘月，在12/13或12/14傍晚19時以後，到隔日12/14或12/15凌晨1:00-1:30左右的這段期間，都沒有月光干擾，尤其是22:00-午夜0時前後，輻射點來到天頂附近，觀察條件最好；而凌晨約1:00-1:30月亮升起後，仍可見到其中比較亮的的流星，只是數量會比之前無月光干擾時少了許多，可能僅剩每小時10來顆的程度。愛觀星的朋友只要到無光害且空曠的郊區，就有機會許下滿滿的願望。

　　雙子座流星雨不但流星數多而穩定，所以才名列年度三大流星群之一。流星雨的來源一般是彗星殘留在軌道上的殘渣，但這群卻是第一群被確認流星體來源為小行星的流星雨。天文學家認為這群流星雨來自第3200號小行星（3200 Phaethon），輻射點位在雙子座頭部的北河二附近，其流星特色是速度中等偏慢（～每秒35公里），亮度中等偏亮，偶爾會出現較明亮的火流星，且流星多半呈現彩色；不過流星劃過後少留有餘痕，這點和8月中旬的英仙座流星雨不一樣。

The Geminid meteor shower is active from 4—17 December, but predicted to peak around 06:30 UT (6:30am GMT) on Thursday, 14th. The night of 13—14 December is largely free of moonlight since the 25-day-old waning lunar crescent doesn’t rise until shortly before 4am GMT in the UK. This year’s display coincides with a close passage of the meteors’ parent body, a “rock comet” known as 3200 Phaethon, so rates of shooting stars may be unusually high. From a dark location at the peak you could expect a meteor every minute, with a good proportion of them bright. The radiant lies near star Castor in Gemini. For scale, this quadrant of the sky centred on the southeast at 10pm GMT in the UK stretches from horizon to overhead. AN graphic by Ade Ashford.
