Gliese 832c：獲頒「和地球最相似的系外行星」第3名

天文學家發現距離太陽系僅16光年遠的系外行星Gliese 832c，其質量約為地球的5.4倍以上，故被歸類為所謂的「超級地球」。而這項發現最重要之處在於：這顆系外行星恰好位在其母恆星的適居區中，且表面平均溫度253K與地球的255K非常類似，但有著明顯的季節變換，或許可以支撐生命在此發展。因此它被列為「適居系外行星表（Habitable Exoplanets Catalog）」中的第23個成員；這個星表單在本年中的數量就已倍增，可見目前系外行星搜尋與研究的成就相當驚人。


表面溫度與地球非常相近的這個特徵，讓Gliese 832c進入「和地球最相似的系外行星」榜單第3名，近似地球指數（Earth Similarity Index，ESI）達0.81；另2顆與地球最相似的系外行星則分別是Gliese 667C c（ESI=0.84）和Kepler-62 e（ESI=0.83）。但Gliese 832c是這項ESI榜單前3名中最靠近地球者，因此天文學家對它的興趣絕對會比另2者還高許多的。
