period -1000 to 6000 did not find a single case where Jupiter and Saturn had a mutual occultation. He looked for close conjunctions and found the closest at 424 BC.
There will be a close approach of 6' arc of the two in 2020 and hence will give a telescopic view of the two together. The Date of the event is 21 December 2020, at 18 h UT.

太陽系12月將有罕見天文景觀，美國天文學者指出，土星與木星將於12月16日至25日這段期間，達到1226年3月4日以來的最近距離，兩星體間的視直徑為0.1度，比在地球上觀看滿月的視直徑0.5度還近。
根據《Phys.org》報導，土星與木星自今年夏季以來，距離彼此越靠越近，美國德州休士頓萊斯大學（Rice University）天文學者派翠克．哈蒂根（Patrick Hartigan）表示，這種現象每20年會發生一次，罕見的是，這次土木之間的距離，將是1226年3月4日以來的最近距離。
哈蒂根指出，從12月16日至25日，土星與木星的距離會開始小於地球上觀看滿月的視直徑，並在12月21日達到最近距離，屆時兩顆行星之間的視直徑為0.1度，最佳觀看地點位於赤道，但在天氣條件允許的情況下，這起天文事件可以在地球上任何一的地方被觀察到。
