Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) launched its first set of detectors on April 26, 2019. It marked the beginning of comprehensive research effort in observing and detecting very high energy cosmic rays with the anticipated world most sensitive gamma ray detection facility.

中国科学院高能物理研究所获悉，位于四川省稻城县海拔4000余米处的高海拔宇宙线观测站首批探测器日前已投入科学观测，将探索高能宇宙线起源。

　　高海拔宇宙线观测站项目首席科学家曹臻介绍，宇宙线是来自宇宙空间的高能粒子，携带着宇宙起源、天体演化、太阳活动及地球空间环境等重要科学信息，被称为传递宇宙大事件的“信使”。研究宇宙线及其起源是人类探索宇宙的重要途径。

　　“宇宙线来自哪里，它们是如何被加速到如此之高的能量，一直是困扰科学家的问题。”曹臻说，超新星爆发、黑洞爆发、巨大星系之间的碰撞等，到底谁才是真正的来源，还需要继续寻找证据，高海拔宇宙线观测站项目正是瞄准这一重大科学问题而提出。
